The first Hunan Oil-tea Camellia Festival opened at the Tangjiashan Oil-tea Camellia Cultural Park in Qiyang City, Yongzhou, on November 16, 2023.
Peng Guofu, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, declared the festival open.
Hunan has taken great efforts in promoting high-quality development of oil-tea camellia industry. Its oil-tea camellia plantation area, camellia oil production, output value, and scientific research level are leading the country. By the end of 2022, there were 22.498 million mu (over 15,000 hectares) of oil-tea camellia plantations, producing 252,000 tons of camellia oil with a comprehensive output value of 52.06 billion yuan. A total of 1.11 million farmers have been lifted out of poverty thanks to the industry. The oil-tea camellia industry has become a distinctive and advantageous sector of Hunan Province in consolidating and expanding the achievements made in poverty alleviation in coordination with the extensive drive for rural vitalization.
At the opening ceremony, Jinhao, Shan Run, and other eight enterprises were granted with the title of Hunan's Top 10 Camellia Oil Brands. Liuyang Jukang, Changning Huhong, and other eight plantations were commended as Hunan's Top 10 High-standard Camellia Oil Demonstration Plantations. Tangjiashan Oil-tea Camellia Cultural Park was authorized as a provincial high-standard oil-tea camellia industrial park.
The festival was hosted by the Hunan Forestry Bureau, Yongzhou Municipal People's Government, and China Forestry Industry Federation. A series of activities were held, including a study tour at the Tangjiashan Oil-tea Camellia Cultural Park, a camellia oil products, machinery, and technologies fair, a "Go, to Yongzhou" Camellia Oil Gourmet Festival, and an oil-tea camellia industry development forum.
