An exhibition of gongbi (meticulous brushwork) paintings opened at the Hunan Art Museum on November 7, and will run until November 26. The gongbi technique uses highly detailed brushstrokes to depict subjects with precise delineation and without independent or expressive variations.

A total of 116 pieces or sets of artworks by 106 influential Hunan painters of the meticulous gongbi genre of classical Chinese paintings are on display. The exhibition, composed of three parts, aims to systematically and comprehensively show the evolution of Hunan gongbi painting over the past 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and further promote the development of Hunan gongbi painting in the new era.
