It is one of the national major water conservancy projects for water saving and water supply, and a backbone to alleviate water shortage along the "Hengyang-Shaoyang arid corridor". Upon completion, the reservoir can irrigate over 1.31 million mu (75,440 ha.) of farmland, guarantee water supply for 900,000 people, and effectively improve the quality and efficiency of drinking water to serve 702,000 people in rural areas.
