China's railways will adopt a new operating plan starting from October 11, 2023. Under the new plan, 93 bullet trains in total will be newly added across the country, and 114 trains running in designated sections will be adjusted, according to the China Railway Guangzhou Group.
The new plan is expected to improve the high-speed railway transport capacity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and eastern Guangdong, as well as optimize the operations of Guiyang-Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua high-speed railways.
Hunan will have a further broadened high-speed rail "circle of friends", as a result of the opening of Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou High-speed Railway and Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway along the Yangtze River. The G1782/1 Changsha-Nanjing and G1744/3 Guangzhou-Nanjing trains will be extended eastward to Taicang in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province. Besides, the D664/3, D668/7, and D686/1 from Shenzhen to Xiamen and Putian will be extend northeastward to Fuzhou.
The operation of the bullet train routes connecting Changsha and Hunan's northwestern regions will be also adjusted. Six trains will be added to the section from Jishou East Railway Station to Changsha on the Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua High-speed Railway, which can shorten 20 minutes of travel time on another route passing through the Zhangjiajie West Railway Station. Ten bullet trains will be added to the sections from Changsha (Changsha South) railway stations to Zhangjiajie, Changde, and Yiyang, which will provide more options for travelers.
Based on the new plan, broader regions will be covered by high-speed railways. The route of the existing G4571/4 and G4573/2 trains from Wuhan to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station will be extended westward to Xianfeng County of Hubei Province.
In order to meet the increasing demands of domestic and international logistics, 14 more freight trains will be operated across the areas under the management of China Railway's different subsidiary groups. The number of such cross-area freight trains will reach 97 in total.
