The Jianghua Yao Autonomous County of Yongzhou City started transporting a batch of fresh vegetables weighing 27 tons to Malaysia on September 26, 2023. Hunan Province exported 1.09 billion CNY of vegetables to economies involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) between January and August this year, up 22% year on year and maintaining a rapid growth, said the Changsha Customs.

Hunan vegetables have been exported to 35 countries and regions involved in the BRI since it was proposed in 2013. Yongzhou City is the main force of Hunan vegetable export, accounting for more than 94% of the total Hunan vegetables exported to the BRI economies. It achieved a year-on-year increase of 35.6% in the first eight months of this year.

Yongzhou vegetables, besides being exported to traditional markets in Southeast Asia including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia, have also been expanded to emerging markets in Middle Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, said a Yongzhou Customs official. Statistics showed that the city exported 1,289 tons of vegetables worth 14.25 million CNY to the United Arab Emirates alone during the January-August period, growing by 124.6% and 155.4% year on year respectively.

The Yongzhou Customs has publicized the requirements of Middle Eastern countries for importing fresh fruits and vegetables to major local vegetable export enterprises, in response to changes in the export market. It has opened a "green channel" for vegetables export on a regular basis.
