The foreign-aid project titled "Neonatal Capacity Building for National Pediatric Hospital of Cambodia" was launched in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia on September 20, announced by Hunan Children's Hospital. The project is supported by the National Health Commission of China.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia as well as the China-Cambodia Friendship Year. Fruitful achievements of cooperation in public health have been made between the two countries.
Hunan Children's Hospital, as the undertaker of China's first health project for women and children, started to collaborate with the National Pediatric Hospital of Cambodia in 2016. The hospital has given full play to its superiority as China's only foreign aid provider in neonatal care, and launched a five-year (2019-2024) pairing-up project to assist the National Pediatric Hospital of Cambodia. It helps the hospital construct a standard neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), improve its infrastructure and facilities, train professional personnel, and elevate its neonatal diagnosis and treatment capacity.
Moreover, Hunan Children's Hospital will donate professional medical facilities to the National Pediatric Hospital of Cambodia, including neonatal incubators, neonatal blue‐light phototherapy (NBLP) machine, ventilators, blood-gas analyzers, and ophthalmic devices. A China-aided international remote medical center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and was officially put into operation. The center will facilitate remote medical service and multidisciplinary discussion. Beyond that, Hunan medical experts will also help fill the gap of the aided hospital in ophthalmic surgery for children. The National Pediatric Hospital of Cambodia will send medical staff to Hunan Children's Hospital for trainings.
After the launching ceremony, Chinese and Cambodian medical experts held a remote consultation for two neonatal cases via video link, and discussed therapeutic regimen. Xiao Zhenghui, director of Hunan Children's Hospital, provided specific suggestions on diagnosis and treatment.
