On September 7, a batch of 800 solid wood doors featuring Chinese mortise and tenon joint structure were delivered to North America after completing customs clearance in Hengyang. These doors were produced in Hengyang's Qidong County. This marked that Hunan has exported such products for the first time.
Mortise-and-tenon wood door represents a unique traditional craft in China. Qidong County has a long history of making wood products in traditional ways.
According to a manager of the exporter, these doors were assembled by mortise and tenon joints, and delivered in assembly parts with the aim of facilitating transportation. Besides, purchasers may assemble the doors easily by themselves, which happens to coincide with overseas consumers' "DIY (do-it-yourself)" demand.
The maiden export of mortise-and-tenon wood doors has generated renewed dynamism for this traditional craft. Exported doors hold high requirements for the treatment of timber pests, size and scale, and environmental protection indicators. After obtaining the export orders, the enterprise did a good job under the guidance of the Hengyang customs authority in materials selecting and processing, anti-pest treatment, and finished product protection, to ensure smooth export of the products.
