The Changsha Marathon WeChat public account announced on August 29 that, the 2023 Changsha Marathon will kick off on October 29. After being held online for three years, this year's marathon will bring runners back to the actual course. Registration for the marathon will start at 17:00 on August 31. The race will feature three categories: the full marathon, the half marathon, and a fun run. The number of runners will reach 26,000.

The Changsha Marathon was first held in 2015. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has been held online for the last three years. Over the years, it has been rated as a gold medal event by the Chinese Athletics Association and a silver label road race by the World Athletics.
