Passenger flows on rail lines run by the Guangzhou Railway Group continued to boom during this year's summer travel rush. The group said on August 23 that 103 million railway passenger trips were made from July 1 to August 22, making an increase of 40.929 million or 65.8% over the same period in 2022.

Changsha is one of the hot destinations for summer travel. The Changsha South Railway Station and Changsha Railway Station continued to see a surge in passengers. A total of 9.036 million and 3.736 million passenger trips were made at the two stations, 2.143 million and 935,000 more than the 2019 level respectively.

"During the summer travel rush, the Guangzhou Railway Group handled 1.945 million daily passenger trips and operated 2,700 passenger trains per day," said a person in charge of the group's passenger transport department, adding that ever since the travel rush, the railway authorities have added 4,118 passenger trains, including 3,264 EMU trains (including 258 high-speed night trains).

The Guangzhou Railway Group has updated daily train operation schedules according to the changes in passenger flows and ticket presales and has adopted a dynamic and gradient approach to unleash transport capacity. Such measures as arranging high-speed night trains, linking EMU trains, and adding normal-speed trains have been taken to expand the effective supply of transport capacity and meet the travel needs of passengers.

It's now the peak for return trips to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha and other popular destinations. To meet the weekend travel needs of passengers, the Guangzhou Railway Group will add four extra high-speed night trains from August 25 evening to August 26 morning, namely, train G9675 from Changsha South to Guangzhou South, train G9671 from Changsha South to Shenzhen North, train G9674 from Shenzhen North to Changsha South, and train G9676 from Guangzhou South to Changsha South.
