8 Hunan Universities Included in Academic Ranking of World Universities

The ShanghaiRanking Consultancy unveiled the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities on August 15. Central South University (CSU) in Hunan Province made its debut on the list, ranking 93rd worldwide.


A total of 1,000 world-class research-oriented universities were included in this ranking. Out of these, there are 191 universities from the Chinese mainland making the list, among which 10 are within the global top 100, two more than the figure of last year.


Hunan has eight universities listed among the global top 1,000, ranking 9th nationwide in terms of the number of shortlisted unversities.

As two higher education leaders of Hunan Province, CSU and Hunan University (HNU) shine on the list. CSU was shortlisted for the global top 100 for the first time, ranking 93rd. HNU entered the global top 200 list, ranking between 151st and 200th.


Besides, six other universities were included in the global top 1,000, namely Hunan Normal University (HNNU), in the ranking range between 501st and 600th; National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), in the ranking range between 501st and 600th; Changsha University of Science and Technology (CSUST), in the ranking range between 701st and 800th; Hunan Agricultural University (HUNAU), in the ranking range between 801st and 900th; University of South China (USC), in the ranking range between 801st and 900th; and, Xiangtan University (XTU), in the ranking range between 801st and 900th.


Compared with that in 2022, HNNU and NUDT have risen one ranking range, from that between 601st and 700th to between 501st and 600th. HUNAU has improved its ranking range from being between 901st and 1,000th in the previous year to now being between 801st and 900th. USC and XTU made the global top 1,000 list for the first time, with their rankings both in the range between 801st and 900th.
