Xiangxi Biancheng Airport has reached the civil aviation operation standards, and accordingly got an operating license from the Civil Aviation Administration of China on August 10, 2023. It will open to navigation on August 18, with the first flights bound for Beijing and Guangzhou.
Xiangxi Biancheng Airport is situated in Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. It is a provincial key construction project with the approval of the State Council. The construction started in August 2018.
The airport covers 235 hectares, with a total investment of nearly 2.9 billion CNY. Its terminal building covers 11,000 square meters, and the runway is 2,600 meters long and 45 meters wide, with five aircraft stands. It can handle landings and takeoffs of various aircraft types, such as Boeing 738 and Airbus A321. It was designed with an annual capacity of 300,000 passenger trips and 450 tons of cargos.
So far, the interior and exterior construction of the airport have been completed, and 126 working staff have been in place.
