The 2023 Research Report on High-Quality Development of County Tourism in China has been released recently. It announced the top 100 counties in comprehensive tourism strength in 2023. Four counties (county-level cities) in Hunan Province were shortlisted. They included Liuyang City, Changsha County, Ningxiang City, and Fenghuang County, ranking 4th, 23rd, 37th, and 58th respectively.
The report was jointly published by the National County Tourism Research Team and the Huaxia Baiqiang Tourism Consulting Center. It focused on 1,866 counties (including county-level cities) in the Chinese mainland. A research system involving 32 indicators in six aspects has been developed to evaluate the candidates' comprehensive tourism strength. The six aspects include tourism economic development level; the promotion role of governments; comprehensive driving function of the tourism industry; tourism development and environmental protection; tourism facilities and service functions; and tourism quality supervision and market regulation. The top 100 counties (county-level cities) with the highest scores were selected as China's Top 100 Counties in Comprehensive Tourism Strength.
Liuyang City has moved up 2 places in the ranking compared to last year. As a national demonstration county for leisure agriculture and rural tourism and one of provincial all-for-one tourism demonstration areas, Liuyang City has pressed the "acceleration button" for the recovery of the cultural tourism industry in 2023. It has claimed many honors. On May 19, Liuyang was awarded the title of "China's Best Red Culture Tourism City". Liuyang's "Enchanting Journey, Discovering the New Look of the Countryside" was selected as one of the national rural tourism routes launched by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
