In Dashu, or Major Heat solar term period, the paddy rice planting areas in southern China enter the "Shuangqiang" stage when farmers rush to harvest early-season rice while transplanting late-season rice seedlings. In spite of scorching heat, farmers in Hunan's Changning City are engaged in these farming work to ensure a bumper harvest of the year.
In recent years, Changning City has given top priority to rice production. It has carried out a multiple cropping mode of double-cropping rice and "flue-cured tobacco + late-season rice", which has enhanced land utilization and output capacity and maximize the potential of land. These practices have also helped increase farmers' income and boost rural revitalization.
