China's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) recently approved the proposal to support the National Supercomputing Center (NSCC) in Changsha to make preparations for building a national open innovation platform for new-generation AI public computing power, the first of its kind in Hunan Province. The NSCC in Changsha is built and operated by Hunan University.

The platform will concentrate on constructing an AI computing power network and resource sharing system; an AI software resource supply and demand matchmaking and task dispatchment system; and, an AI public resource pricing, charging, and settlement system. It will customize standardized and modularized open data sharing modes for specific fields, and establish an AI application innovation ecosystem. Upon completion, the platform will focus on intelligent equipment, smart factory, and intelligent connected vehicles, and play a significant role in promoting AI original innovation and key and core technology R&D, and cultivating and enhancing intelligent industrial clusters.

MOST launched the recommendation and application procedures for the national open innovation platform for new-generation AI public computing power last year. Nine platforms have been approved to launch construction, and 16 other platforms have been given approval to make preparations for construction.

Changsha was designated as a national pilot area for new-generation AI innovation development in 2021, and a pioneering area for AI innovation and application. More and more national-level honors and titles that Changsha has been awarded will further back the city to build a global R&D hub.
