The first Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi China-Laos international freight train departed from Huaihua on June 22, 2023. With the joint efforts of the three provinces, the Huaihua International Land Port becomes a significant option for Hubei and Jiangxi to deliver goods to ASEAN countries.

The train pulled out of the Huaihua International Land Port at 10:00 that morning, bound for Laos along the China-Laos Railway. It was loaded with 20 cargo containers carrying 540 tons of ammonium sulfate. Compared with previous conventional delivery routes, the logistical costs will be nearly 50 percent lower with the delivery from the Huaihua International Land Port, after the addition of the various combined subsidy policies.

In December 2022, Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provincial governments reached an agreement on giving play to the roles of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the China-Laos Railway, and integrating into the new pattern of the "Belt and Road". The three parties agreed to leverage the superior conditions of the Huaihua International Land Port as an outward channel and its linkage with ASEAN. The goods from the three provinces' cities along the Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming Railway would be gathered in Huaihua for coordinated transport. The Huaihua International Land Port Economic Development Zone, the Huaihua Development and Reform Commission, and the Huaihua Customs Authority organized field surveys in Hubei and Jiangxi to examine the local conditions for assembling goods as well as the transport routes, in order to improve their own processes and enhance collaboration in customs clearance.

Huaihua has established regular freight train operations through its three major international logistics channels to ASEAN: the rail-sea intermodal transport service linking the Beibu Gulf Port, Zhanjiang, and Guangzhou; the China-Laos Railway; and the China-Vietnam Railway. It has handled 194 freight trains so far this year, including 21 that have travelled via the China-Laos Railway. The cassava starch imported from Laos have been transported from the Huaihua International Land Port to other regions including Jiangxi's Pingxiang City.
