The Changsha Customs data shows that, in the first four months this year, Hunan Province has exported 29,690 vehicles, up more than three times year on year. The auto export value hit 5.717 billion CNY, soaring 201.8% over last year.

Auto trade has taken the spotlight in Hunan's foreign trade.

An array of vehicles to be exported to Belarus and Kazakhstan are assembled in the assembly workshop of Chinese automaker Geely's Hunan subsidiary, which has an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles. As of mid-May, Geely's Hunan subsidiary has exported 6,768 vehicles via the China-Europe freight trains, which surpassed the total number of last year. Its annual exports will hit an estimated 15,000 units. It has become the top automaker in Hunan Province in terms of the number of exporting destination countries, total export volume, and export growth rate. It has exported vehicles to 29 countries and regions in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and East Europe.

The countries along the Belt and Road were the largest market for Hunan's auto exports in the first four months.

At the Yitongda International Trade Co., Ltd., located in the Zhuzhou Auto Expo Park, numerous export orders were displayed on a blackboard in its meeting room. Twenty vehicles have completed inspections and were prepared to be exported to Jordan. This company has been approved by the Ministry of Commerce for used car export qualification in August, 2022. As of May this year, it has gained export orders of1,223 vehicles, among which 80% are new energy vehicles. It is estimated to export 5,000 used cars this year, worth more than 100 million USD. Its clients are mainly located in Central Asia, Russia, and the Middle East, while the business in Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa markets is expanding. The market demands for commercial vehicles and construction machinery surged compared with last year.

Since the beginning of this year, Changsha Customs has implemented several facilitation initiatives, such as declaration in advance, fast customs clearance for railway transport, and non-arrival inspection, to shorten the export clearance time for automobiles and other products. To address the challenges of transporting automobiles due to their size, the customs authority has also encouraged companies to adopt new approaches such as exporting complete sets of spare parts, destination assembly, and using specialized cargo cages on trains to reduce transportation costs.
