Sixteen areas, including Yangfan Night Market, Dayao Town of Liuyang City, Hunan Biological and Electromechanical Polytechnic, and Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town, have been included in Changsha's first batch of characteristic pilot demonstration areas for digital RMB or e-CNY, according to the Changsha Municipal Financial Office on June 5. These demonstration areas were jointly identified by the provincial and municipal leading group offices for the digital RMB pilot work.

Changsha was included in the second batch of national digital RMB pilot cities at the end of November 2020. Since then, it has earnestly implemented the national digital RMB strategic planning, focused on building digital RMB infrastructure that benefits the people, covers various scenarios, and is highly intelligent, safe and reliable, and promoted the digital RMB pilot work to a higher level.

Up to now, Changsha's offline merchants that open digital RMB service have exceeded 440,000. A total of 23 million personal and corporate digital wallets for e-CNY have been created. Nearly 68.19 million transactions have been made via digital wallets, with the transaction value totaling about 11.1 billion yuan. Changsha's transaction data were among the best in the country's second batch of pilot cities.

Building these demonstration areas aims to create a number of digital RMB application scenario models to improve the construction quality of pilot scenarios, stimulate scenario activity, further give play to the leading and driving role of demonstration areas, and jointly promote the scale and quality of Changsha's digital RMB pilot work.
