The Changsha event for the World Environment Day was held at the Xiangfu Cultural Park in Tianxin District, Changsha on June 5. Wang Shengcai, deputy director of the Ecology and Environment Department of Hunan Province attended. Changsha Vice Mayor Zhou Min announced the launch of the event.

The theme of this year's event is "Building a modernization featuring harmonious coexistence between people and nature". The 2022 Changsha Ecological Environment Status Communique was released at the event. In 2022, there were 302 days with good air quality in the urban areas of Changsha, and the proportion of days with good air quality was 82.7%, 28.7 percentage points higher than in 2013.

The second batch of demonstration towns and villages for ecological civilization construction in Changsha City and Changsha's "Most Beautiful Ecological Environment Protection Experts" in 2023 were commended on site. Four special areas were set up, including exhibition areas for Changsha's ecological and environmental governance achievements, environmental protection enterprises, and biodiversity, and a citizens' interactive zone featuring environment-friendly and creative life.

The event was sponsored by the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and the Changsha Municipal People's Government; organized by the Office of Changsha Municipal Ecological Environment Protection Commission, the Changsha Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau, the CPC Tianxin District Committee and the People's Government of Tianxin District, Changsha City; supported by the Publicity Department of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee (Changsha Municipal Civilization Office) and the Changsha Municipal Forestry Bureau; and, undertaken by the Changsha Evening News and the Changsha Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau Tianxin Sub-bureau.
