The 2023 Import Food Enterprise Safety Responsibility Year event was launched at the Customs Office on Orange Isle in Changsha on May 31. During the event, the Changsha Customs released a report on the safety of Hunan's imported food. According to the report, Hunan's imported food comes from 73 countries and regions around the world.

Hunan mainly imports food from Brazil, the United States, the Netherlands, Canada and other countries. Food imports mainly include oil and oil seeds, dairy products, aquatic products, meat, dried nuts, beverages, and sugars. Hunan's infant formula imports rank among the top three in China, with 38,000 tons imported in 2022 and 13,000 tons imported in the first four months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.2%.

Data from the Changsha Customs showed Hunan imported 29.81 billion yuan of food in 2022. In the first four months of this year, the province's food imports amounted to 10.16 billion yuan, up 21.3% year on year. So far, the province has seen 892 imported food related enterprises registered in the customs.

The overall quality of Hunan's imported food is good. The Changsha Customs supervised 6,480 batches of imported food (including cosmetics) in 2022. In the January-April period of this year, it supervised 3,496 batches of imported food. At the event, the Changsha Customs issued an initiative on safety responsibility, calling on imported food enterprises to share responsibility and promote security together.

The Changsha Customs is actively participating in the risk assessment of granting access to aquatic products, nuts, grains, fruits, dried peppers and other food and agricultural products from countries along the Belt and Road after inspection and quarantine, to help more overseas food and agricultural products gain access. Meanwhile, it fully leverages designated customs supervision sites for imported meat, fruits and chilled and fresh aquatic products in Hunan, and innovates to adopt a "green channel" supervision mode for food and agricultural products, in a bid to expand imports of high-quality food and agricultural products.
