Yongping School in Jingzhou County has 1,965 students, of whom over 84% are ethnic minorities such as Miao and Dong. In recent years, the school has innovatively included traditional Miao and Dong culture into the routine educational plan and brought back to life the folk songs, dances, and brocade and batik techniques of Miao and Dong people.

Governor Mao learned about the school's teaching facilities, faculties condition, and educational characteristics. He stressed thoroughly implementing President Xi Jinping's important instructions on the work related to children and the Chinese Young Pioneers (CYP), staying true to the original aspiration and mission of fostering talents for the Party and the nation, and implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. He asked to enhance teachers' ability development, improve educational quality, highlight characteristics of ethnic minorities, and create better conditions to facilitate children's happy and healthy growth.
