As an important carrier of science popularization, the Hunan Science and Technology Week has been held for 23 consecutive years since 2001. It has developed into Hunan's major science popularization brand and platform with rich content, long duration, high public participation, wide coverage and significant social impact.

The Science and Technology Tour to Hunan is a major demonstration event during the week. It is part of the five major rotating events of the National Science and Technology Week. In the following week, more than 100 experts from Hunan and other provinces in the fields of education, medical care and public health, agriculture, and industry will be divided into several groups to carry out over 200 activities in schools, hospitals, communities, enterprises, and rural areas in Yizhang County. The activities, with the theme of "valuing science and technology", include science popularization lectures, free physical examinations, clinical trainings, agricultural techniques guidance, and enterprise trainings.

At the launching ceremony, the organizing committee conferred plaques to Hunan's 24 national science popularization demonstration counties (cities or districts) and presented flags to science and technology service teams. More than 1,000 people participated in the ceremony, including officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, Hunan Association for Science and Technology, and Hunan Provincial Department of Education; nationwide expert representatives; students; and Yizhang residents.
