A press conference of the 3rd China (Zhangjiajie) Vine Tea Cultural Festival was held on May 15, 2023.
The 3rd China (Zhangjiajie) Vine Tea Cultural Festival will open at the Shimin Square in Zhangjiajie city proper on May 20, 2023, on the occasion of the 4th International Tea Day and the National Day for Helping the Disabled. It will last until July. Five themed events will be held to raise the profile of Zhangjiajie vine tea regional brand and contribute to boosting rural revitalization.
Various activities will be held during this vine tea cultural festival, including the launching ceremony of a "Strength of Tea" public welfare campaign, a vine tea industrial exposition, an online charity fair on the Douyin platform, a vine tea making skills competition, and a photography contest. These activities will present the Zhangjiajie vine tea to the world, and help promote high-quality development of Zhangjiajie's tea-culture-tourism integration.
Vine tea, or Ampelopsis grossedentata, is a medicinal plant, and locals call it "Mei Cha". It boasts the highest flavonoid content among all plants and multiple effects in reinforcing immunity, resisting oxidation, protecting livers, and clearing heat from throats.
Zhangjiajie's Yongding District is a major producer of vine tea, reputed as "a place of vine tea in China". It has China's largest vine tea plantations, with a total planting area of nearly 150,000 mu (about 100,000 hectares) and an annual output value of more than 2.5 billion CNY. Over 85,000 people have got employed in vine tea related businesses, with the per capita income increasing by over 8,000 CNY. Vine tea industry has become a pillar for consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation and facilitating rural revitalization.
