Hunan consumer market has boomed during this "May Day" holiday. According to the data monitored by the Ministry of Commerce, 400 retail and catering enterprises in Hunan Province achieved an average daily sales of 471.601 million yuan during the 5-day holiday, an increase of 18.6% over the same period in 2022.
There was a significant surge in consumption in Hunan's supermarkets, department stores, home appliances, and catering industries, and in customer traffic in commercial complexes, large supermarkets, and commercial streets and blocks. Xiangtan issued about 4.4 million yuan of consumption vouchers. The turnover of many stores such as Better Life Shopping Mall and Wanda Plaza was equivalent to the level registered during the same holiday in 2019 before the epidemic outbreak. BBG Xintiandi Shopping Mall, Friendship & Apollo International Plaza and other large commercial complexes in Shaoyang saw an average daily customer traffic of over 20,000, with sales totaling 20 million yuan, up 15.5% over the same period in 2019.
Consumption of home appliances and automobiles grew rapidly. The total sales of Chenzhou Top Electrical Appliances grew by 34.4% year on year to 10.21 million yuan, 35.09% more than the same period in 2019. Changsha hosted the 2023 Hunan Auto Show and the Changsha Automobile Consumption Festival, presenting an array of brand automobiles and a record high of debuted new fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles, and concept cars. Hengyang held multiple automobile expo, festival, and consumption promotion activities, which drove the city's auto sales to reach 120 million yuan.
Restaurants and canteens experienced robust recovery and strong resurgence in operating revenue. The food and beverage stores across Hunan received numerous visitors. Take-out delivery workers were as busy as a beaver. The data released by a major food delivery platform (ele. me) said that during the "May Day" holiday, Changsha's nighttime orders (between 22:00 and 24:00) increased by 120% from a month earlier, and those of crayfish delivery service up 130%.
