A series of traditional celebrations for Shangsi Festival were held in the Qianyang Ancient Town, Hongjiang City, on April 22.

Shangsi Festival, also known as the Double Third Festival, is an ancient Chinese festival celebrated on the third day of the third lunar month, which falls on April 22 this year.

Thousands of people enjoyed themselves in various festive celebrations. They tasted seasonal Qianyang delicacies such as eggs boiled with shepherd's purse; took part in a parade in traditional Han costumes; sought "orange fairies" at the orange park; visited a Han-style wedding; watched Shaolin martial arts performances; strolled around an intangible cultural heritage bazar; enjoyed singing on rowboats; painted oil-paper umbrellas; and, joined in a reading salon. These activities showed the participants unique charms of this ancient town.

Such annual celebrations have been held for 14 years in a row, which helped promote Huaihua tourism, develop a "Double Third" festival brand of the Qianyang Ancient Town, and facilitate integration of culture and tourism. (Photo/Zhang Xiwen)
