An event titled "Instant Retail Tour in China" will take place in Changsha on April 19, aiming to advance the city's building of neighborhoods that offer all residents convenient community services within a 15-minute walking distance, or "15-minute convenient life circles". The event is guided by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce and organized by the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the Kaifu District People's Government, and the Chinese on-demand retail platform Meituan.
The event, initiated by Meituan Shangou, the quick-commerce arm of Meituan, will take "digital technology" as a guide, introduce the development of the instant retail industry to local enterprises through offline activities, help multi-category retail merchants achieve digital upgrading, boost the industry's recovery and high-quality development, and stimulate the expansion and upgrading of local consumption. Meanwhile, it will provide residents with more personalized commodities and 24-hour instant delivery services, to help create "15-minute convenient life circles".
In recent years, Meituan Shangou has cooperated with many offline brick-and-mortar store owners to promote "Meituan Takeaway 24-hour Convenience Store", "Morning Glory" System and other projects. The efforts facilitate "15-minute convenient life circles" construction and win recognition from the majority of merchants and consumers.
Launched in June 2022, the Meituan Takeaway 24-hour Convenience Store Project was first implemented in Changsha. Yellow light boxes symbolizing Meituan takeout 24-hour convenience stores were hanging on the front doors of convenience stores in Changsha such as NewJoy Mart and Meiyijia.
Changsha is one of the cities across the country to pilot the "15-minute convenient life circles" plan. According to data from Meituan, Changsha's merchants offering instant retail services on Meituan and their turnover have been increasing significantly in the past two years. As for convenience stores alone, the city's convenience store merchants offering online instant retail services grew by 60% year on year in 2022.
