On the afternoon of April 5, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, met with Jorge Luis Perdomo, deputy prime minister of Cuba, who came to visit Hunan.
Li Dianxun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province; Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuban ambassador to China; and, Qu Hai, secretary general of the People's Government of Hunan Province, attended.

Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefed them on the situation in Hunan Province. He noted that Hunan is the hometown of the late Chinese President Mao Zedong. It has rich historical and cultural traditions, obvious geographical advantages, a strong industrial foundation, and a sound development trend of opening up. Hunan has established economic and trade partnerships with 227 countries and regions worldwide. It is now prioritizing the high-quality development; seizing strategic development opportunities; implementing the positioning, missions, and tasks of the "Three Hubs and Four New Missions" Strategy; and, striving to turn the grand blueprint drawn by President Xi Jinping into reality.
In recent years, Hunan and Cuba have been enhancing communication and exchanges, and cooperating closely in economy and trade, agriculture and biomedicine. In 2022, Hunan's import and export trade with Cuba reached 92.87 million yuan, up 33.6% year on year. The China-Cuba Biotechnology Joint Innovation Center located in Yongzhou City is growing into the Chinese headquarters of Cuba's biotechnology integrated innovation and results transformation, Governor Mao said, expecting that both sides may take the deputy prime minister's visit as an opportunity to expand economic and trade collaboration, strengthen cultural and tourism exchanges further, and make new contributions to building a China-Cuba community with a shared future.

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Perdomo remarked that the close cooperation between Cuba and Hunan is a vivid epitome of the special friendly relations between China and Cuba in the new era. "We hope the two sides to further exchange and cooperation in such fields as information and communication, biomedicine, health, culture and tourism based on the China-Cuba cooperation plan of "Belt and Road" Initiative to achieve win-win development", he added.
