1,158 Major Projects Worth Over 500 Billion Yuan Commenced in Hunan

Ceremonies for commencement of construction of 1,158 major projects for 2023 were held simultaneously in Hunan's 13 cities and one prefecture on March 30. The projects, which are worth 522.1 billion yuan, have an annual planned investment of 195.8 billion yuan. Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended the commencement ceremony at the main venue in Changsha and announced the start of the major projects. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Mao Wanchun, chairperson of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended.

Provincial leaders Li Dianxun, Wu Guiying, Xie Weijiang, Wu Lan, and Guo Zhenggui attended the ceremonies at the main venue or sub-venues.

The 1,158 projects mainly focus on advanced manufacturing, sci-tech innovation, modern infrastructure, and public services. A total of 106 major projects involve major industries, facilities, and platforms, which are aimed at strengthening regional competitiveness, innovation, and development. Each project has an investment of over one billion yuan.

There are 753 innovation and industrial projects worth 402.2 billion yuan, accounting for 77% of the total investment. Among them, there are 408 advanced manufacturing projects involving high-end equipment manufacturing, advanced materials, and new energy vehicles, so as to build a number of major science and technology platforms.

There are 234 infrastructure projects, with an investment of 68.4 billion yuan or accounting for 13%. They involve network infrastructure construction, industrial upgrading, and urban infrastructure.

There are 140 projects featuring people's livelihood and social undertakings, with an investment of 40.5 billion yuan or accounting for 8%. They involve government-subsidized housing, renovation of old communities, public health, education, and medical care.

There are 31 environmental protection projects, with an investment of 11 billion yuan or accounting for 2%. They involve improvement of prominent environmental problems along the Yangtze Economic Belt, ecological restoration of the Dongting Lake, and energy conservation and emission reduction.
