Five districts of Changsha – Yuhua, Yuelu, Tianxin, Kaifu, and Furong, have made the 2023 list of top 100 districts in terms of innovation. Yuhua came in 20th on the list released on March 28 by CCID Consulting's Urban Economic Research Center, while Yuelu, Tianxin, Kaifu, and Furong ranked 27th, 49th, 76th and 81st, respectively. Compared with last year, the rankings of Yuhua, Yuelu and Furong were up 1, 3 and 4 places, respectively.

The list was compiled based on an urban district innovation evaluation system composed of four first-level indexes--innovation ecology, innovation impetus, innovation entities, and innovation results, and 16 second-level indexes, including regional GDP, R&D investment, and the number of high-tech enterprises.

With the help of statistical data and CCID Industry Brain, the innovation level of districts of prefecture-level cities across the country (except municipalities directly under the central government, state-level new areas, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan Province) was comprehensively evaluated.

Yuhua District has more than 600 high-tech enterprises, ranking first among districts in Changsha city proper. Among them, 206 are located in Yuhua Economic and Technological Development Zone, making the zone the first provincial industrial park in Hunan with over 200 high-tech enterprises. In 2022, the district achieved a 42.87% year-on-year increase in turnover of technology trade contracts, amounting to over 22.773 billion yuan and making it the top-ranked district citywide. It reflected the successful commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
