Hunan Martial Arts Competition Kicks off in Xinhua County

The "Xiangjiao Cup" 9th Hunan Martial Arts (Taolu and Sanda) Competition kicked off in Xinhua County, Loudi, on March 25 and 26, 2023. Xinhua County is reputed as a national "cradle of Chinese martial arts". A total of 119 teams of 2,223 athletes coming from 13 cities and one prefecture around Hunan Province competed in Taolu, Sanda, and mixed martial arts events. 




Xinhua County boasts three national-level calling cards – martial arts, folk songs, and Nuo opera. With profound cultural foundations and wide popularity, the Meishan Martial Arts originated in Xinhua County has been included into the national intangible cultural heritage items.

This competition was hosted by the Hunan Sports Federation, Hunan Wushu Association, and Xinhua County People's Government, and organized by the Xinhua County Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Broadcasting and Television, and Sports.
