On the afternoon of March 3, the Hunan delegation to the first session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) held its first plenary meeting in Beijing. Zhang Qingwei, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, presided over the meeting.
Zhang Qingwei was elected as the head while Mao Weiming, Wang Shuangquan, Li Dianxun, and Wu Lan as the deputy heads of the Hunan delegation. Deputies present at the meeting also included Du Jiahao, Xu Dazhe, Hu Xusheng, Liu Lianyu, Yang Weigang, Jiang Difei, Zhou Haibing, Zhu Yu, Ye Xiaoying, and Li Jiancheng.
The meeting reviewed the list of the presidium and secretary-general (draft) and the agenda of the NPC session (draft), and discussed and approved seven motions. These motions would be submitted to the 14th NPC first session in the name of the Hunan delegation. They are suggestions on:
- Supporting accelerated promotion of the Hunan-Guangxi Canal construction;
- Supporting cultivation and construction of a national regional science and technology innovation center in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Metropolitan;
- Systematically promoting protection and governance of the Dongting Lake;
- Supporting Hunan to advance the electronic information industry and establish an important national IT innovation and application industry base;
- Supporting Hunan's major transportation projects construction;
- Supporting Hunan's energy construction; and,
- Construction of the Yangtze River Middle Reaches Economic Zone.
