Gu Xiulian Inspects Work on Women and Children in Hunan

Gu Xiulian, former vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and director of the China National Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth, inspected work on women and children in Hunan between February 28 and March 2.

During her inspection tour, Director Gu Xiulian attended the opening ceremony of an exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Women's Federation of Hunan Province. Gu conducted field visits to Hunan Women's University; Aier Eye Hospital (Changsha); and, Furong South Road Community in Chiling Road Neighborhood, Tianxin District. She learned in detail about the achievements in school running, efforts in prevention and control of children and juvenile myopia, and innovative working approaches of the committees for the wellbeing of the youth at grassroots level. Director Gu stressed the need to study and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, exercise Party leadership at every point in the process of women's federations work, put heart and soul into the work for women and children's development, and remove obstacles to establish close ties with women and children. Gu added that we must follow Party and state's educational policy, further understand the law concerning the development of female education, and promote featured development and high-quality development of female education by reaching its full potential.


She said that a number of featured classes should be offered to cultivate female talents who can adapt to the society and the needs of the new era, adding that the cultivation of gender consciousness will be included in a talent training system through curriculum design. She noted that we must put people first and give full play to the advantages and role of veteran cadres, veterans, veteran specialists, aged teachers, and old moral models; we must innovate working approaches and intensify coordination to form a synergy; we must help teenagers foster a right outlook on the world, life and values; and, we must take practical measures to bring the wellbeing of the youth to a new level. 

Gu Xiulian also inspected the Longping Rice Museum and attended a gala marking the 113th International Women's Day and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Women's Federation of Hunan Province. 

Provincial leasers Wu Guiying, Zhou Nong, Qin Guowen, and Huang Lanxiang, and Yang Taibo, director of the Hunan Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth attended the activities or accompanied her on the inspection tour.
