On the afternoon of March 1, Hunan Governor Mao met with Dominican Republic MIU General Secretary Miguel Mejia.

Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefed them on Hunan Province. He introduced that Hunan is the hometown of great men and generals, with a long history, a hub of talented individuals, a robust industrial foundation, and a complete industrial system. It boasts a green environment, a rich and ancient culture, strong red or revolutionary traditions, and thriving golden industries. Hunan has been carrying forward positioning, missions, and tasks of the "Three Hubs and Four New Missions" Strategy and striving to turn the grand blueprint drawn by President Xi Jinping into reality. Its economy and society has generally shown a good trend of steady, rapid, and sound development.

Both sides have witnessed closer high-level exchanges, intensified economic and trade cooperation, and expanded collaboration fields, since the establishment of friendly province-city relations between Hunan and Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's capital city in 2021. During the COVID-19 epidemic, we stood together in the fight against this global health crisis. Our joint efforts showcased a profound friendship based on mutual support and a commitment to making progress together. In 2022, the bilateral trade volume between Hunan and the Dominican Republic grew rapidly with promising prospects. Governor Mao noted that despite being separated by thousands of miles, Hunan and the Dominican Republic share a special bond that resembles that of close neighbors, adding that Hunan will take General Secretary Miguel Mejia's visit as an opportunity to further promote cooperation with the Dominican Republic. Both sides may further collaborate in such fields as modern agriculture, cultural tourism, medical and health care, and media exchanges, so as to achieve complementary development, mutual benefit, and win-win results, and contribute to promoting the continuous development of China-Dominican Republic relations.

He expected that on the basis of good cooperation, the two sides may continue to deepen practical partnership in agriculture, infrastructure, culture, education and other fields, and achieve more fruitful results in advancing friendly exchanges between the two countries.
