A press conference marking the 60th anniversary of the call to learn from Lei Feng by Mao Zedong and other older generation revolutionaries was held in Changsha City, Hunan Province on the afternoon of February 23.

Lei Feng spirit is an essential part of a long line of inspiring principles for Chinese Communists. Since the 18th National Congress, President Xi Jinping has made important expositions on learning from and carrying forward the Lei Feng spirit. President Xi emphasized that the Lei Feng spirit is eternal and it is a vivid expression of the core socialist values, and stressed the need to carry forward the spirit with practical actions in the new era. These expositions set the course for passing on the Lei Feng spirit in the new era.

2023 marks the 60th year since revolutionaries of the older generation, including Mao Zedong, wrote inscriptions for comrade Lei Feng. Hunan is the hometown of Lei Feng. The CPC Hunan Provincial Committee attaches high attention to activities of learning from Lei Feng, a late ordinary soldier and a household icon in China celebrated for selflessly helping others. A leading group will be established to organize series activities with the theme of "New Lei Feng in the New Era". The efforts will show Hunan's strong determination in learning from Lei Feng and efforts in carrying forward the Lei Feng spirit from generation to generation with profound red or revolutionary heritage, strong sense of responsibility, and enterprising spirit.  

The series activities include a press conference, 2023 Lei Feng Spirit Forum, a volunteer service campaign, an art performance, a ceremony of moral models learning from Lei Feng, and a special exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of the call to learn from Lei Feng by Mao Zedong and other older generation revolutionaries. The activities aim to guide the public to pay attention to, support, and participate in activities of learning from Lei Feng and carry forward the Lei Feng spirit.

Beyond that, series books and public service advertisements themed on the Lei Feng spirit will be published. Provincial departments and cities across the provinces will also hold colorful events accordingly.
