On January 17, a China-Laos freight train loaded with 14 TEUs of porcelain insulators, auto parts, electronic products, articles of daily use, and bacteriostatic agents was delivered from the customs supervision zone at the Huaihua International Land Port after going through the customs clearance.

In 2022, the Huaihua International Land Port had handled 151 international freight trains and rail-sea intermodal trains. Huaihua has been comprehensively integrated into the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement.

Supported by preferential policies, the Huaihua International Land Port had fully leveraged its advantages as a Hunan-ASEAN freight hub to attract investment and freights in 2022. It collaborated with freight transport and freight forwarding companies, such as the Hunan Honest Global Logistics, Anxun Logistics, Tianjin Zhongyun Group, and Sinotrans Limited, to promote two-way normal operation of the Huaihua-Vientiane freight trains on China-Laos Railway, Huaihua-Hanoi freight trains on China-Vietnam Railway, and Huaihua-Beibu Gulf rail-sea intermodal trains. Remarkable effects have been witnessed over the past year.

The Huaihua International Land Port had handled 151 international freight trains and rail-sea intermodal trains last year, overfulfilling the annual goal by 51%. A total of 7,584 TEUs of about 200,000 tons of goods worth more than 977.83 million CNY were delivered. These have given a strong impetus to Huaihua's soar in export-oriented economy and brought about a 150% growth in its total foreign trade value year on year. The Huaihua International Land Port has become a significant access to Europe and ASEAN countries based on the national Belt and Road Initiative, and built a bridge between the central and western regions of China and ASEAN countries. It has injected powerful impetus into the economic development of the ASEAN countries, and the interconnectivity between China and ASEAN.

Between April and December 2022, Hunan's foreign trade enterprises imported nearly 4,000 tons of quality cassava starch in 296 TEUs from Laos' Vientiane and Luang Prabang, with a total sales hitting 10 million CNY. In 2023, the enterprises will further expand domestic market, and try to increase the import volume of cassava starch to 30,000 tons, to lay a foundation for building a cassava starch distribution center of central China in Huaihua.

In 2023, the Huaihua International Land Port will rely on the international freight train service, to promote high-level opening up and high-quality development and contribute to the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. Meanwhile, it will strive to achieve an annual goal of handling 300 freight trains.
