The airports around Hunan Province have witnessed surging passenger flows since the start of the Spring Festival travel rush on January 5. As of January 12, Hunan's airports had handled 356,000 passenger trips, a 44.4% growth compared with that before the travel rush. The passenger trips at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport exceeded 50,000 in a single day.

The Hunan Airport Corporation actively coordinated with the airlines to meet passengers' demands. In response to the increasing trips of going home for family reunions or visiting tourist attractions, the corporation added flights on the main air routes from Changsha to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming, and Haikou. The flights from regional airports such as Zhangjiajie and Changde airports to Beijing and Guangzhou were also increased.

The passenger load factor of the flights from Changsha to Chengdu, Chongqing, Sanya, Xiamen, Nanjing, Qingdao, and Lijiang had exceeded 80%. Besides, international flights to Nairobi, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, and Bangkok had been resumed. The Changsha-Hong Kong flights were resumed on January 16.

Changsha airport launched a "temporary parent" service during the winter vacation to care for the children aged between 12 and 16 who travel by themselves. Meanwhile, special check-in counters for family travelers and medical personnel were set up. A courtesy zone was set up and wristbands for priority boarding provided to facilitate travels of the passengers with special needs.

Beyond that, volunteers at the terminal entrances could offer help to the passengers who may not be able to figure out their luggage, and those who are not allowed to get on board due to their non-standard belongings. The volunteers would provide bags to separate the oversize or overweight luggage and luggage tags for boarding, to help the passengers go through priority luggage check-in and security inspection.
