Hunan Has 5 Cities Qualified in Advocating Green Transport

The Ministry of Transportation released a list of 97 qualified cities in the campaign to advocate green transport. Hunan's Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Changde, and Yongzhou cities were shortlisted. Among them, Changsha has built a safe, convenient, efficient, and green modern public transport system in its downtown area, with the proportion of green transport approaching 75%.

The public transport network is the foundation of public transport services. In recent years, Changsha has made continuous efforts in improving green transport network. It has largely completed the framework of rail transit network; continuously optimized bus routes and offered precise and featured bus service; and, enhanced connection between rail transit and bus service. Green transport service has kept improving.


Besides, Changsha has strengthened transportation infrastructure construction to consolidate fundamental support. It has made efforts in electrifying buses, standardizing bus stations, setting up characteristic bus stops and stop boards, building facilities for pedestrians to cross the road, standardizing shared bicycles, and enhancing safe riding of electric bicycles. More and more people prefer green travel.

So far, 7,906 buses run along 292 bus routes in Changsha's downtown area. More than 94.9% of the bus routes have access to rail transit. Nearly 75% travels are made in green way. The green transport service satisfaction reaches 85%. The proportion of city dwellers using public transport hits 54.19%. Bus and subway have become first choice of transport means for the Changsha people.
