Hunan's Tourism Market Shows Recovery After 10 "New Measures" Released

China released a circular on further optimizing the COVID-19 response on December 7th, announcing ten prevention and control measures. Since then, Hunan's tourism market has expected a faster recovery.

The circular went viral on WeChat moments and triggered a travel demand. These measures to optimize the COVID-19 response are paying off soon. Data from Qunar showed that bookings for air tickets heading for Changsha had increased 40% over the previous week since December 7th. 


The number of tourists has increased accordingly. The reporter was told that tourist arrivals at Orange Isle Scenic Area reached 12,500 during the past weekend, five times more than the previous week. Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area registered the highest daily number of visitors 20,000, 10 times more than last week. Changsha Ecological Zoo received more than 2,400 tourist arrivals during the past weekend, 20 times more than last week.

In addition, tourist arrivals in scenic areas in Shaoshan, Zhangjiajie, and Chenzhou have increased significantly. Tianmen Mountain and Wulingyuan Scenic Area both saw a 200% increase in tourist numbers. Recently, the 72 Unusual Houses received an average daily visitor of 2,000, registering a five times increase. In addition, leisure and recreation venues, including bars and restaurants, witnessed a rise in visitors.
