Recently, the Hunan Provincial Water Conservancy Department announced the list of the sixteenth batch of provincial-level water conservancy scenic spots, and approved the Gaodeng River Scenic Area in Louxing District, Loudi City as a provincial water conservancy scenic area. So far, Hunan has built a total of 95 water conservancy scenic areas at the provincial level or above.
Gaodeng River Scenic Area was built on the local interconnected water system and belongs to the natural river and lake-type water conservancy scenic area. In 2020, the Gaodeng River was selected as a national pilot project for water system connectivity and comprehensive treatment of villages with beautiful waters. With the main stream of the Gaodeng River as the core axis, the beautiful countryside and natural forest as the carrier, the Gaodeng River Scenic Area relies on the water ecology, water conservancy projects and related facilities in the river basin, to fully explore water culture and implication, integrate related tourism elements, and build a water conservancy scenic area featuring bridges and dams and taking ecology as the showpiece.
Hunan has established water conservancy scenic areas above the provincial level since 2002. At present, there are 43 national water conservancy scenic areas and 52 provincial ones, covering rivers, lakes, reservoirs, key irrigation areas and soil erosion controlled areas.
