Wu Yuanzhou, a teacher from the Advanced Technical School of the China Construction Fifth Engineering Division Corp., Ltd. (Changsha Building Engineering School), won the gold medal in bricklaying at the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition held in Salzburg, Austria on November 28. Wu's gold medal was the third consecutive one that the Chinese team has won in bricklaying.
The WorldSkills Competition, known as the "Skills Olympics" and hosted every two years, is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world that reflects the benchmarks of the global industry. The WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition is a multi-country international skills competition taking place across the globe, with 62 finals in 15 countries and over 1,000 competitors. It is the official replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022, cancelled in May due to the pandemic.
According to the rules, contestants have to complete the final work through such steps as drawings recognition, setting out, measuring, cutting, pointing, plastering, and cleanup within 22 hours. In addition, there are many temporary changes on the scene of the special competition, and the time and topic details on the field are changing, which has brought a lot of pressure to the players. After nearly 4 days of fierce competition, Wu Yuanzhou stood out and won the championship, adding another gold medal to the Chinese delegation.
