Datong Lake Hairy Crab, a specialty of Yiyang City, is a national geological indication protection product and one of the top 10 famous crabs in China. Since 2018, Yiyang City has focused on "quitting fish farming, pollution interception, dredging, greening, and improving water quality" to promote the comprehensive management of the water environment in the Datong Lake watershed. The CPC Datong Lake District Committee and the Management Committee of the Datong Lake District have encouraged local residents to transform more than 6,000 mu (400 ha.) of fish ponds within 1,000 meters of the lake to develop "aquatic plants plus hairy crabs" ecological comprehensive aquaculture.
