The Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway is an important part of the Chongqing-Changsha-Xiamen High-speed Railway, one of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network in the national medium and long-term railway network planning. It will be located in eastern Hunan Province and southwestern Jiangxi Province. Starting from the Changsha West Railway Station in Changsha City, Hunan Province in the west, it will connect to the under-constructed Changde-Yiyang-Changsha Railway, stretch southeastward through Pingxiang City and Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, and end in Ganzhou City.

The main track is about 429.5 km in length, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a construction period of five years. The main line of the Hunan section is 131.85 kilometers long, with two new stations to be built -- the Huanghua Airport Station and the Liuyang Station. Upon completion, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport will realize the integration of air and rail transport; while Liuyang will have its first high-speed railway station.

The Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway will also include:

- A Yunnan-Guizhou-Xiamen connecting line and a connecting line between the Changsha South Station and the Changsha West Station in Changsha City, to connect to the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway and the Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway at the Changsha South Railway Station;

- A Chongqing-Changsha-Shanghai connecting line in Pingxiang City, to get access to Shanghai through the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway; and,

- A connection line in Ganzhou City, to link Changsha City and Shenzhen City.

This railway will further enhance economic exchanges and personnel contacts between the regions along the railway and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the economic zones in Fujian Province on the west coast of the Straits, and other coastal areas.
