On November 21, the first 500 kV power transmission and transformation project in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was completed and put into operation in Zhangpai Village, Hexi Town, Jishou City. It marked that the prefecture's power grid reached ultra-high voltage level. The power supply capacity increased to 1.5 million kilowatts, which greatly enhanced the overall power supply capacity in western Hunan and further strengthened the main grid structure of Hunan Province. Meanwhile, clean energy sources such as hydropower and wind power in western Hunan will be transmitted through the 500 kV power grid. This will enhance the transmission capacity of the west-east power transmission program in western Hunan; boost the capacity of power grid to absorb electricity generated from renewable energy sources; and, ensure the province's power supply needs.
