The 17th Joint Interview Event for Reporters from Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits was held in Hunan between November 2nd and 8th. Nearly 30 reporters from more than ten media outlets across the Straits visited Hengyang and Changsha to experience the charm of Hunan culture.

"Hunan always gives me fresh experiences. I am deeply impressed by the beauty of Hengshan Mountain, the poverty alleviation stories of Shishan Tea Farm, and the cultural heritage of the internet-famous city—Changsha," said Ren Yifang, Beijing-stationed reporter of ETtoday, adding that the charm of Hunan will be introduced to the Taiwan people through multiple forms, to help people on both sides of the Straits to expand mutual understanding.

Li Qiaoxin from Yilan County, Taiwan, began operating we-media or self-media in the Chinese mainland in 2020. "Tea culture on both sides of the Straits comes from the same origin. The taste of Taiwan's high mountain tea and Nanyue's Yunwu (cloud-mist) tea is similar," said Li Qiaoxin. When experiencing Yunwu tea picking at the Shishan Tea Farm at an altitude of 800 meters in Nanyue, she was inspired and said she planned to visit the Chinese Tea Ancestor Cultural Park in Chaling County and visit Anhua County to learn about dark tea. She hoped to strengthen bonds of cross-Straits relation through tea.

"The cultural and creative industry has developed rapidly in the Chinese mainland. Cultural and creative products of the Hunan Museum have given new vitality to ancient cultural relics, and its exported products have raised some Taiwanese youths' attention to ancient Chinese history. In addition, they have witnessed cultural exchanges between Hunan and Taiwan," said Wu Yuehua, president of Taiwan's People's News.

"Changsha is warm and open, where foreigners can feel kind and at ease. This has remained unchanged despite the pandemic," said Huang Yuanyuan, a reporter from Taiwan's Eastern Multimedia. She truly felt Changsha's strong inclusiveness and creativity by visiting a pedestrian street and Taiping Street. "In my future reports, I will try my best to promote the vitality of Changsha to Taiwanese audiences," Huang added.

Hunan has organized the joint interview event for reporters from both sides of the Taiwan Straits Since 2003. Hunan is one of the earliest provinces in the Chinese mainland to promote people-to-people exchanges for cross-Straits media outlets. The event has been held for 17 sessions so far and has become a brand activity for Hunan-Taiwan exchanges.
