The preparatory committee of the Coordinated Development Alliance of the Whole TCM Industrial Chain in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao held its plenary meeting via video link on October 26.
Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and also former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), presided over and addressed the meeting at the Hong Kong sub-venue.
Leaders and experts attending the meeting at sub-venues included Li Weiwei, chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee; Yao Zengke, chairman of the CPPCC Jiangxi Provincial Committee; Wang Rong, chairman of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee; Zhang Dafang, vice chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee; Xie Ru, vice chairman of the CPPCC Jiangxi Provincial Committee; Zheng Zhentao, vice chairman of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee; Liu Liang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; and, persons in charge of relevant departments in Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
Participants listened to the report on the preparatory work of the alliance. The persons in charge of the four cooperation centers – TCM Materials Cooperation Center, TCM Sci-tech Innovation Cooperation Center, TCM Industrialization Cooperation Center, and TCM Commercial and Trade Cooperation Center – introduced their work progress respectively. An official of the Hunan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine presented the drafting of a framework agreement on the coordinated development and cooperation of the whole TCM industrial chain in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The participants had an in-depth exchange of views.
Officials of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee stated that, as an initiator of the alliance, Hunan Province will continue to actively undertake related work, and make all-out efforts and due contributions to the start-up and effective operation of the alliance. Hunan expects to rely on the alliance to boost resource sharing, leverage respective strengths, and achieve win-win results, and explore an innovated mode of TCM industrial cooperation between the five regions. The CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee will give play to its political consultation role to serve the country and the people, and promote traditional Chinese medicine.
On top of the consultative conference on promoting the coordinated development of TCM industry in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao which was held on September 27, all parties have extended consensus and taken active actions. The preparatory committee was formed, with Mr. Leung Chun-ying as the committee director, and Li Weiwei, Yao Zengke, Wang Rong, and Liu Liang as deputy directors. The membership included the leaders of Hunan, Jiangxi, and Guangdong provincial committees of CPPCC, and related departments in Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
