The feasibility study report of building the Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway was recently approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. According to the Hunan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway will be at the east of Hunan Province and south of Jiangxi Province. It will be a significant part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network, and a critical passenger transport line in the 14th Five-year Plan for national railway development. The construction will start within this year.

The Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway will start from the Changde-Yiyang-Changsha High-speed Railway Changsha West Station, stretch southeastward through the Changsha Huanghua International Airport, Liuyang, Jiangxi's Shangli, Pingxiang, Lianhua, Yongxin, Jingangshan, and Suichuan, and end at Jiangxi's Ganzhou City. The main track is about 429.4 km in length, with a design speed of 350 km per hour. There will be 11 stations along the line. The total investment is 84.6 billion yuan. The construction period is estimated to be five years.

The Hunan section of the railway will be 132 km in length. Three connecting lines will be built -- the one linking the Changsha South Station, the one between the Changsha South Station and the Changsha West Station, and the one linking the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway, and the Changsha West Bullet Train Depot will be expanded, with a total investment of 31 billion yuan.

The Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway will help improve the regional transportation infrastructure in the regions along the line, and facilitate economic and personal contacts between these regions and the developed areas such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait. It will play a significant role in coordinating regional development, narrowing the development gap between eastern and central areas, consolidating and expanding the achievements made in poverty alleviation, and carrying out rural revitalization strategy.
