On October 5, the Migratory Birds Protection Camp of Hunan Province launched a 10th anniversary event in Changsha, themed "retrace the thousand-year-old route of migratory birds". The event will last from October to December. The participators will conduct observation along the route, investigate markets and restaurants, interview residents, make questionnaire surveys, and communicate with relevant authorities, to learn about the protection situations of migratory birds along their migration routes and the changes over the past decade due to the efforts of the camp.

The first batch of over 30 volunteers from Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Loudi, and Shaoyang marched along the Xuefeng Mountain section of the migration route between October 3 and 5, to observe the migratory birds protection progress.

In the past ten years, the Ecological Protection Volunteer Services Federation of Hunan Province (HEPF) established the first regional migratory birds protection network in China – the Migratory Bird Guardian Action Network of Hunan Province. It organized teams, constructed bases, and gave trainings to youths, and set up a provincial-county-village-individual joint action mode, to safeguard the migratory birds and their habitats.

There are 56 migratory bird protection teams/stations around Hunan Province, composed of more than 5,000 migratory guardians. A total of 356,600 patrol trips have been organized, 13,161 bird catching nets were dismantled, and more than 25,000 birds were rescued and released.
