Hunan's Yiyang City recently knotted friendship city ties with Guarulhos City of Brazil via official letters. Chen Jing, deputy secretary of the CPC Yiyang Municipal Committee and Yiyang mayor, and Gustavo Henric Costa, mayor of Guarulhos, signed the agreement of establishing international friendship city relationship.

Hence, Guarulhos became Hunan's first city-level international friendship city in Brazil, and also Yiyang's another new international friend since 2011.

Yiyang and Guarulhos inked a MoU on establishing friendship city relations in December 2019. Since then, the two cities had carried out friendly exchanges in healthcare, education, and environmental protection. Amid the breakout of COVID-19 pandemic, the two governments held three video meetings, and organized relevant departments to share anti-pandemic information and experience. Profound friendship had been established in the joint fight against the pandemic. In 2021, the two cities hosted a video conference on higher education cooperation, to seek cooperation opportunities in talent exchange and major development of universities.

Amid the flourishing cooperation between China and Brazil, Yiyang and Guarulhos will focus on the collaboration in such fields as healthcare, education, science and technology, and environmental protection, and promote friendly exchanges and economic and trade cooperation, to boost mutual benefit and win-win achievements.
