A consultative conference on promoting the coordinated development of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao was held in Changsha on the afternoon of September 27, 2022. Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and also former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), attended via video link.

The virtual meeting was chaired by Li Weiwei, chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee. Yao Zengke, chairman of the CPPCC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, joined the meeting via video link. Zhang Dafang, vice chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee; Xie Ru, vice chairman of the CPPCC Jiangxi Provincial Committee; and, Zheng Zhentao, vice chairman of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee, attended the virtual meeting at different provincial venues simultaneously.

Relevant responsible persons of Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region respectively introduced the development of their traditional Chinese medicine industries and put forward relevant opinions and suggestions. Liu Liang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Macao, introduced the idea and suggestions of building a coordinated development alliance of the whole TCM industrial chain in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

It was said that the alliance will:

- Focus on the Hunan-Jiangxi border area;

- Gather the resources and advantages of Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao;

- Base itself on the comprehensive TCM health industry;

- Build the whole TCM industrial chain of "plantation, research, industry, and trade";

- Establish an industrial chain alliance in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao specializing in authentic medicinal herbs standardized large-scale planting, primary processing, deep processing, logistics network for commercial services and international trade, standardization construction, talent cultivation, TCM application and promotion, and TCM internationalization;

- Explore a Hunan-Jiangxi-Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao TCM industrial cooperation and innovation mode of research and development in the Greater Bay Area, having it industrialized in Hunan and Jiangxi, and serving the global market"; and,

- Accelerate the high-quality Hunan and Jiangxi TCM resources to enter the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and promote the high-quality development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.
