The past decade is of milestone significance for China, and also a marvelous period for Hunan's reform and development. These ten years have witnessed profound and transformative changes in Hunan Province.

Shibadong Village, a remote mountainous village of Miao people, had a long history of poverty due to the inconveninece of the traffic. The situation started to change in November 2013 when the concept of "targeted poverty alleviation" was firstly proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping when he inspected the village.

Over the past decade, the village started to develop industries by tapping into the rich culture of the Miao people. With government support, villagers have turned cottages into rustic family inns, Miao embroidery workshops sprung up, and breweries and silverware workshops opened doors to tourists. A high-quality development path with red or revolutionary tourism as the core has been formed. The per capita income of villagers increased from 1,668 yuan in 2013 to 20,167 yuan in 2021, while the village-level collective economy reached 2.68 million yuan.

Shibadong Village has become a calling card of Hunan Province in opening a new chapter of development in the new era.
