On September 26, the Expressway Network Operation Monitoring and Command Center of Hunan Province, the Hunan Provincial Expressway Traffic Police Station, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Hunan Meteorological Service Center, jointly studied and forecasted the traffic situations of the expressways provincewide in the upcoming National Day holiday.
During this 7-day holiday, expressways will be toll-free for passenger cars with up to seven seats from 0:00 on October 1 to 24:00 on October 7, 2022.
Considering current epidemic situations and highway network operation conditions, a strong travel demand of the public within the province is forecasted. The overall traffic pressure of the expressway network will be high, though comparatively lower than the same period of last year. The travelers will be mainly for short- and medium- distance driving tours and visits to relatives. Cross-province travels will diminish compared with previous years, while small car driving tours will be in a majority.
The traffic flow on the expressways and the national trunk line expressways around Changsha and other main cities, as well as scenic areas (spots), will surge compared with usual times, and intermittent congestion may occur in peak times on some road sections.
It is estimated that, during this holiday, a total of 26.04 million vehicles will pass through the entrances and exits of expressways around Hunan Province, 9.25% lower than last year. The daily traffic flow will stand at about 3.72 million vehicle trips on average, 1.8 times more than the routine level. The peak day will be on October 1, with a peak flow reaching 4.15 million vehicles which will be 11.7% less than last year.
